The 2016 Barolo is a very pretty and expressive wine. Moreover, it is surprisingly accessible for a young Serralunga Barolo. Dried flowers, sage, mint, tobacco, licorice and lavender give the 2016 lovely aromatic presence to match its mid-weight personality. This is very nicely done.

The Casa E di Mirafiore 2016 Barolo opens to a bright and lifted set of aromas, although the clarity of the Nebbiolo fruit is muddled and lost along the way. That's too bad, given the high expectations and general excellence of this vintage. You get a medley of wild fruit, dried rose, grilled herb and earth, all in no particular order of importance. My hope is that this wine finds more focus with additional cellar aging.
