Vaudieu's 2020 Chateauneuf du Pape has turned out well, marked by scents of mixed cherries and hints of menthol, dried spices and thyme. A blend of 78% Grenache, 14% Syrah and 8% Mourvèdre, it's full-bodied, ripe and creamy, with a moderately concentrated, slightly loam-like finish.

Starting with the classic cuvée, the 2020 Châteauneuf Du Pape is 78% Grenache, 14% Syrah, and the rest Mourvedre. This sexy, medium to full-bodied effort has a great nose of black raspberries, mulled strawberries, lavender, and Provençal garrigue. With no hard edges, a pure, layered, balanced mouthfeel, and ripe, silky tannins, it's well worth a case purchase.

78% Grenache, 14% Syrah, 8% Mourvèdre. Aged 12 months in demi-muids (86%) and old barrels. Cask sample. Fruit ripe and juicy. The oak sits in a little, leaving a chocolate note, but doesn’t overpower the fruit. Slightly dry finish. A little disconnected but there’s potential. (JL)
