(80% vendange entier ): Bright full red. Very reduced aromas of strawberry, coffee and game, plus a whiff of leather that carries through on the palate. Bright and spicy on entry, then creamy in the middle, but kept firm by pepper and herb notes. Then turns a bit dry on the back end, with underlying chalky minerality contributing to an impression of firmness. In a disjointed phase today.

The 2013 Vougeot le Clos du Prieuré has a more herbaceous bouquet compared to Vougeraie’s, though that partly comes from the fact that there are 60% whole cluster fruit in here. The palate is medium-bodied with fresh acidity, slightly rigid tannins at the moment, rendering this quite masculine and almost surly on the finish. I would like a little more flesh and generosity here, although I can imagine it flourishing on the dinner table. A little lean, but undeniably deftly crafted.
