The 2016 Vosne-Romanée Les Quartiers de Nuits has a savory, almost meaty bouquet that infuses the slightly rustic, almost ferrous red berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly dry tannin, and I find it attenuates toward a slightly hard finish that feels as if it is grappling with the 100% whole bunch rather than embracing it.

0.3 ha. 100% whole bunch and 25% new oak. Racked to tank in November and now on fine lees in tank. Deep cherry red. Very pretty and showing a little more of the whole-bunch character in a fresh herbal lift. A touch of oak sweetness on the nose and palate. And the oak definitely showing more on the palate in a dark-chocolate and spicy finish. Bone dry but not drying. Maybe a little less fruit at the core to carry the oak? Maybe just needs greater patience? (JH)
