The 2018 Volnay Village is very attractive, offering up aromas of cherries, blackberries, exotic spices and toasty new oak. Medium to full-bodied, supple and lively, it's fleshy and demonstrative, built around chalky tannins and tangy acids. This will demand only moderate patience and numbers among the more immediate of Clerget's 2018s.

Seeing no new oak, the 2018 Volnay Village comes from two parcels of around 50-year-old vines in Les Petits Gamets and Ez Echards that produce small berries. This has bold scents of blueberry and cranberry fruit on the nose, and just a faint touch of mulch in the background. The medium-bodied palate shows grainy tannins. Fresh and vibrant, with an enticing energy coiled up on the finish. This will be difficult to resist in its youth but will surely offer 15 years of enjoyment.
