The 2019 Maranges 1er Cru Clos de la Boutière is terrific, wafting from the glass with aromas of cherries, woodsmoke and sweet soil tones. Medium to full-bodied, muscular and concentrated, with rich, powdery tannins and succulent acids, it will reward at least a few years' bottle age.

The 2019 Maranges Clos de la Boutière 1er Cru comes from a parcel of 80-year-old sélection massale vines (the domaine one of only two to produce bottlings from this Premier Cru). This was very reduced on the the nose that made it difficult to read. The palate feels quite structured on the entry, tight and conservative, a sense of verticality here with a graphite tinged finish. I will reserve judgement because of the veil of reduction but it is still very promising.
