The base 2014 Châteauneuf Du Pape is outstanding, and shows a more complex, evolved style than the 2013. Pinot Noir-like notes of strawberries, framboise, spice, and flowery incense all emerge from the glass, and it’s medium-bodied, has no hard edges, and a great finish. Drink it over the coming 5-7 years.

The base 2014 Châteauneuf du Pape, this outstanding red is an elegant, finesse-oriented beauty that’s reminiscent of a classy Pinot Noir with its medium-bodied richness, sweet tannin and perfumed bouquet of strawberries, framboise, spice and crushed flowers. Drink it over the coming 5-6 years.

Bright ruby. Raspberry, candied flowers and white pepper on the highly perfumed nose. Silky, palate-staining red berry compote flavors pick up subtle smoke and floral pastille qualities with air, along with a suggestion of allspice. Finishes appealingly sweet and long; fine-grained tannins lend grip to the juicy, clinging red fruit.
