The 2017 Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatières 1er Cru sports quite a bit of reduction on the nose that makes the terroir and fruit profile difficult to read. The palate is well balanced, taut and fresh, with a fine bead of acidity and good depth; quite powerful for a Folatières. Fine bitter lemon notes surface on the finish, which is very sapid and more-ish. A long-term wine but well worth cellaring. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting in Savigny-lès-Beaune.

The 2017 Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatières 1er Cru displays a little more intensity than the Les Referts, presenting a mélange of fresh citrus fruit, pineapple and orange blossom scents, plus hints of crushed limestone underneath. The palate is beautifully delineated, spicy and vibrant, revealing orange peel and hints of white pepper toward the involving and very persistent finish. An outstanding Puligny, but it will need longer cellaring than the Les Referts.

Lemon fruit and a very slight hint of blossom as well as light oak spice. Intense and zesty on the palate with a long mouth-watering finish. (JH)
