The 2017 Corton-Grèves has a pleasant bouquet of wild strawberry, cranberry leaf and light sea cave aromas, all gradually unfurling in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied and quite stocky for a Corton, offering chewy tannin and a grippy, slightly peppery finish with traces of tobacco lingering on the aftertaste. This will require three or four years in bottle.

Very floral and aromatic with strawberry, candied-raspberry and citrus character. Medium-bodied, tight and lightly chewy with a linear personality and swift brightness at the end. Structured and refined. Better after 2022.

Jadot's 2017 Corton Grèves Grand Cru (Domaine Louis Jadot) is undeniably charming, wafting from the glass with aromas of sweet red berries, warm spices, espresso roast and grilled squab. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, satiny and layered, with juicy acids, a generous core of fruit and a supple, giving profile. This will be hard to resist in its youth.

Cask sample. Pale crimson. Lightly sweaty nose. Seems just a tad sickly after the fresher, more savoury Côte de Nuits wines I have just been tasting. Really this is not of grand cru status. Rather sharp drying tannins on the end. (JR)
