Castello di Neive's 2018 Barbaresco is a pleasant, easygoing wine to drink now and over the next handful of years. Sweet red berry fruit, spicecake, cedar and tobacco give this mid-weight, approachable Barbaresco a good deal of nuance for a wine in its peer group. The 2018 is not terribly complex, but sure it is delicious.

Neive. Tasted blind. Developed-looking mid ruby with bricky rim. Peppery, concentrated, balsamic nose with top notes of mint and eucalyptus. Supple and rich, but not sweet, cherry fruit with bags of chewy ripe tannins perfectly aligned with the tangy fruit. Ready now. (WS)
