Score 94-96/100 · Drink 2023-2045, Neal Martin, Jan 2020

The 2018 Echézeaux du Dessus Grand Cru has an exquisite bouquet with incense and potpourri aromas infusing the dark red fruit, wonderfully defined and focused, the 70% new oak seamlessly integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, superb poise and a lightly spiced, marmalade-tinged finish that lingers. One of the best Echézeaux that Tremblay has produced.

There are three and a quarter barrels of the brilliant 2018 Echézeaux du Dessus Grand Cru, a dramatic and expressive wine that soars from the glass with aromas of spices, burning embers, red berries, cassis, citrus peel and plums. It's full-bodied, satiny and enveloping, with a broad, creamily textural attack, striking mid-palate amplitude and a long, resonant finish of notable purity and precision. This isn't too far off the level of the 2015 rendition, the wine I would single out as the best Echézeaux that Tremblay has bottled to date.
