The 2018 Vosne-Romanée Aux Brûlées 1er Cru, matured in 50% new oak, has an attractive bouquet of black cherries, blueberry, crushed violet and light rose petal aromas that are nicely integrated with the wood. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe tannins framing the blackberry, bilberry, black olive and black pepper notes, the latter lending the finish a bit of welcome frisson and length. Quite long on the aftertaste. This is one of Michel Gros’s best wines this year.
