Lightish cherry red. There's oak sweetness again here, even a touch of vanilla, but also better intensity of fruit. Gentle chewy tannins, rounded and harmonious. Better balance than the Clos des Poutures at this stage. (JH)

The 2017 Pommard Les Rugiens 1er Cru has a defined, focused, sprightly bouquet that leaps from the glass: red cherries, rose petal and touches of bergamot - an absolute delight. The lightly spiced palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, well-judged acidity and a finely structured finish that lingers. Maybe a little conservative in the scheme of things, but well crafted.
