Tasting notes

Tasting notes
Robert Parker, Apr 2012

The 2009 Volnay 1er Cru bursts from the glass with exotic red fruits, herbs, incense, spices, tobacco and flowers. It combines the overt fruit of the vintage with more delicate, floral notes on the mid-palate and finish. The overall balance and energy are lovely. (AG)

I tasted the 2009s from D’Angerville twice recently, once at the winery in December 2011 and a second time in my office in New York. The Volnay, Volnay 1er and Volnay Champans were all less impressive than the first time I tasted those wines, just after botting. Time will tell if the wines are going through a closed phase today, or if I overrated them the first time around. Importer: Diageo Chateau & Estate Wines, Napa CA; tel. (707) 299-2600

This is also notably ripe with red berry liqueur and cassis hints complementing rich, detailed and admirably pure flavors that possess plenty of vibrancy and more obvious minerality on the supple, seductive, lacy and long finish. This is very Volnay in personality and should mature relatively quickly. *Outstanding*
