Spiced grapefruit juice on the nose. Quite developed. And still quite chewy – though it developed a creaminess in the glass. A classic dry Rheingau Riesling carrying on the Charta tradition founded by the late Georg Breuer! Very long! (JR)

Ripe pear and white peach are accented by bittersweet gentian and iris such as I could have imagined coming from Rauenthal. The polished palate is correspondingly luscious as well as possessed of billowing inner-mouth perfume, a feature ideally reinforced by the wine’s sense of buoyancy, born of just 12% alcohol. Smoky, pungent hints of marjoram add stimulating appeal, while the refreshing, vibrant finish is transparent to stony, alkaline and mouthwateringly saline nuances.

The 2018 Rüdesheimer Berg Rottland Riesling is deep and quiet on the rich and slightly oaky, elegant and noble, flinty nose. Full-bodied, lush and elegant, with fine tannin structure and lingering salinity, this is a well-concentrated, aromatic and persistent dry Riesling with lots of character and charm as well as substance, muscles and aging potential. Bottled in later July this year with 11.6% alcohol and four grams of residual sugar, the 2018 already drinks very well, though. Tasted in August 2019.

A gently spicy and creamy layer underpins this very vibrant and fresh, dry riesling. Considerable structure and weight here. Flowers and fruit on the nose translate to smooth white-nectarines- and lemon flavors. Drink or hold.
