I was once skeptical that England could ever produce a Pinot Noir worth talking about. The 2018 Boot Hill Pinot Noir from Gusbourne is a doppelgänger for a New Zealand Pinot, more Marlborough than Central Otago. The bouquet offers plenty of lush strawberry and raspberry fruit, not complex but pure and fragrant, developing light morello cherry scents with time. The palate is fleshy, ripe, sweet and open, presenting plush red fruit matched with a fine bead of acidity and pleasant sour cherry on the finish. Just damn delicious.
