The 2017 Pommard 1er Cru Les Grands Epenots is showing beautifully from bottle, offering up a deep bouquet of ripe berry fruit, plums and cherries mingled with soil tones and hints of blood orange. Medium to full-bodied, with fine mid-palate volume and powdery structuring tannins, this is a lively, elegant Grands Epenots that has realized the potential it showed in barrel.

The 2017 Pommard Les Grands Epenots 1er Cru, which is raised in around 50% new oak, has an attractive, quite powerful bouquet with summer fruit, cranberries and pressed iris aromas. The palate is dominated by black brambly fruit, just light tobacco notes under the surface with a grippy, marine-influenced finish. Very fine, a little stocky in style, but it deserves time.
