This is a powerful wine, muscular and concentrated but undeniably excellent quality. Stands apart from its sibling Clos 1873 for its smoky, grilled damson, rosemary and black pepper character, and is more of a classic St Emilion with its confident swagger. 30% new oak, in both 225l oak barrels and larger sized 400l oak casks. Consultants Stephane Derenoncourt and Hannah Fiegenschuh.

The 2018 Château Saint Georges Côtes Pavie is a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc brought up 30% new oak. Coming from an incredible terroir on the Côte Pavie (it's just beside Château Pavie), it reveals a deep ruby/plum hue to go with pretty cassis, camphor, spice, and spring flower-like aromas and flavors. Playing in the medium to full-bodied end of the spectrum, it's not a blockbuster, but it has this wonderful, delicate, finesse-driven style that still brings notable concentration, obvious minerality, and an impressive finish. I think the quality is on the uptick, and readers should have this estate on their radar.

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2018 Saint-Georges offers simple blackberry pie and stewed black plums notes, with wafts of fallen leaves and cracked black pepper. Medium-bodied, the palate is clean and fruity, offering a light chew of tannins and a refreshing finish.
