Score 90/100 · Drink 2025-2045, Neal Martin, Feb 2022

The 2019 La Gurgue has a pure, endearing nose of red berry fruit, bergamot and wilted rose petal scents, a seam of graphite surfacing with aeration and imparting a subtle Pauillac-like trait. The palate is medium-bodied with quite a full-on, intense opening. Quite dense for a Margaux, this is a little more muscular in style than I expected, though it retains balance and freshness all the way through to the finish. Afford it 3–5 years in bottle.

The 2019 La Gurgue is deep, fleshy and explosive in the glass. Dark blue/purplish fruit, lavender, licorice, mint, incense and mocha lend notable complexity and fleshiness throughout. This plush Margaux has so much to offer. It's rich, effusive personality is impossible to resist.

The 2019 La Gurgue is a beautiful wine. Dark red cherry, plum, rose petal, pomegranate, mocha and blood orange are some of the many notes that flesh out in this supple, racy Margaux. Deep and pliant, the 2019 has a lot to offer. Readers will find an especially fleshy, supple style. The 2019 is aging in 40% concrete, 40% once-used oak and 20% new oak,
