The 2021 La Bridane has a very simple, rather smudged, leathery nose. The palate is medium-bodied with light tannins, quite meaty in style with a dash of white pepper on the finish—a wine for early drinking.

After ageing, this remains an enjoyable if slightly austere St Julien, with an unfusrry earthiness but plenty of autumnal hedgerow fruit, and a kick of fennel and smoked black tea. One of the very few independent producers left in St Julien, 12ha, owner Bruno Saintout, now joined by his son and daughter. 5% thermo vinification on the Cabernet Sauvignon. Gravel soils, classic St Julien, made in a cellar that was renewwed 4 years ago.

The 2021 La Bridane has a simple nose that just lacks a bit of vigor; you want to get the whip out. The palate is medium-bodied with soft tannins, and a little shallow for a Saint-Julien, leading to a monotone finish.
