Readers looking for a great Bordeaux with classic character and charm that won't break the bank will love the 2021 Le Haut-Médoc De Giscours from Château Giscours. Darker red and black currants, leafy herbs, leather, and cedar pencil notes define the aromatics, and it's medium-bodied, with a balanced, elegant mouthfeel and a great finish. I like it today yet see no reason it shouldn't have 10-12 years of prime drinking.

The 2021 Haut-Médoc de Giscours has a slightly rustic bouquet of black fruit laced with damp moss/undergrowth scents, a touch of brine emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with light tannins, a little more weight on the mid-palate compared to the La Sirène de Giscours and a simple, peppery finish.

The 2021 Haut-Médoc de Giscours turned out well. It is a bit more savory and slender than I recall, but all the elements are nicely balanced. Rose petal, dried herbs, mint, orange peel and sage lend notable aromatic nuance throughout. Cabernet Sauvignon inflections are especially prominent at this stage.
