The 2019 Saumur Champigny La Marginale is wonderfully fragrant, pure and fruity on the nose that displays intense and perfectly ripe red fruit and black berry aromas intertwined with floral notes. Round and lush on the palate, with lots of charm and a still yeasty texture, this is a pure and elegant, fresh and structured Cabernet Franc that is lean and seductively charming. Tasted in June 2021.

While the 2019 Saumur Champigny La Marginale has underlying power and muscular tannins from its deep clay soils, it retains its light body and lightness of touch. There's red currants and the merest hint of green (this is Cabernet Franc and you need to embrace it) alongside violets, but ultimately this is a wine about shape and texture, not flavor descriptors. Scented, medium-length finish.
