Score 88/100 · Drink 2014-2024, Robert Parker, Aug 2014

A good effort from this Margaux estate, the 2003 Rauzan Gassies offers lots of plum, black cherry, forest floor, spice and earth notes in a medium-bodied, surprisingly dense style. With attractive sweetness, adequate acidity and ripe tannin, it should drink well in its youth and last for a decade.

Very healthy glowing ruby. Impressive looking! Pretty ripe on the nose but well constituted on the palate. Zesty and alluring. Even if the tannins are a teensy bit aggressive. Neat. (Average group score: 15.1) (JR)

Dark crimson. Indistinct foxgloves on the nose. Relatively hollow. Flattering, but not intense enough to make old bones. (JR)

Deep, glowing purplish crimson. Very intense colour. Smells rather reminiscent of red cabbage. Sweet and full and formless. Just mass without enough freshness. Solid but unappetising. (JR)
