The 1997 Sigalas Rabaud has an attractive bouquet with fig, orange zest and light Aszú notes. After 26 years, it shows pretty good vigor and focus. The palate is well-balanced with a lively entry. It is not amazingly complex yet definitely fresh and vibrant, with a spicy, smoky finish that lingers in the mouth. It is drinking perfectly now. Tasted at the Sigalas Rabaud vertical at the winery.

Lively green gold. Impressive but relatively evolved. Big classic wine built on a grand scale. Could do with very slightly more tension. (JR)

This is a honeyed, luscious, forward style of Sauternes, with low acidity, and copious quantities of orange, pineapple, and mango-like fruit. In fact, the fruit almost hides the bouquet's other nuances. Full-bodied and rich, with a viscous texture, this lusty, unrestrained wine will be appreciated by tasters looking for immediate gratification. Anticipated maturity: now-2015.
