(aging in a single new 400-liter barrel, which represents a larger volume than usual for this wine): Musky menthol and iodine on the nose; smells like a solid! Very rich and broad but extremely dry and youthfully unformed, conveying an almost shocking sense of minerality. This extremely tactile, powerful wine saturates the palate on the slowly building back end yet somehow avoids coming off as hard-edged. The Chevalier-Montrachet is displaying more personality today--not to mention fruit--but this wine is still in a fetal stage.
