2022 Pavillon Blanc du Ch Margaux

Tasting notes
Maybe one of the best white wines in 2022, the yields were a tiny 15.5hl/ha for the Sauvignon Blanc at Ch. Margaux, meaning there is significantly less Pavillon Blanc than normal. As ever, the pure Sauvignon Blanc is superb. Just 13.3% alcohol, picked from 18th August, the aromatic precision of this wine is tremendous with aromas of peaches and citrus that combine with beautiful acidity and pithy power. The wine is long, with a moreish, saline and mineral finish. Amazing.

The 2022 Pavillon Blanc has a refined bouquet with deftly integrated oak, fine tension and purity of fruit. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, a pleasing brightness and tension, with ample weight on the finish. Classy. Tasted blind at the Southwold tasting in London.
The 2022 Pavillon Blanc has turned out elegantly, wafting from the glass with aromas of white flowers, boxwood, pear, mango and lemongrass. Medium to full-bodied, seamless and layered, it exhibits good depth at the core, bright acids and an attractively mordant finish. This has tightened up in bottle, to the extent that the warmth of the vintage would likely only be visible in a comparative tasting with a cooler year.
