The 2021 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru unwinds in the glass with aromas of pear, green apple, white flowers, freshly baked bread and almonds. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and tangy, with racy acids and a long, saline finish, there's only one bottling this year, as yields were too small to produce the "Quintessence."

Cask sample. Typical Corton-Charlemagne with masses of structure and ageing potential. Nutty, mineral characters allied with zesty lemon/lime. Not for drinking yet – this really needs several years in bottle. Very pure fruit. (AWH)
The 2021 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru includes the fruit that normally enters the "Quintessence" this year. The aromatics don't really take off in the glass; they are a little subdued with touches of lanolin infusing the citrus fruit. The palate is better with bitter lemon and orange rind on the entry, quite compact for a Corton-Charlemagne, fresh with a lively and quite peppery finish. Enjoy this over the next 10-12 years.
