The 2022 de Camensac has quite a high-toned bouquet with pure black cherry and blueberry fruit. Fine delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with saturated tannins, fleshy, low acidity and a weighty finish that lacks a bit of complexity. Not as good as the bottle tasted a year ago. Tasted blind at the Southwold tasting in London.

Smoky red and black fruits, spicy oak, and leafy tobacco notes shine in the 2022 Château De Camensac, a medium-bodied, concentrated 2022 that has ripe yet building tannins, solid balance, and outstanding length. The blend is 59% Cabernet Sauvignon and 41% Merlot, from gravelly soils, and there were over 16,000 cases produced.

The 2022 Château de Camensac has a potent, finely delineated Japanese nori-tinged bouquet, with notes of blackberry, wild hedgerow and a touch of brine. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannins, a crunchy texture and a keen line of acidity. Touches of graphite on the finish complete a well-crafted Camensac to drink over the next 15 years.

Quite a scented and layered nose of spiced berries, pencil shavings, white pepper and creme de cassis. Quite refined and pretty, with a medium to full body and firm, polished tannins. Poised, juicy and long. One of the best Camensacs I have tasted, and it’s a great value for this excellent vintage. Drink from 2027.

A stone’s throw from Saint-Julien, Ch. de Camensac was long underperforming, but – under the ownership of the Merlaut-Villars family – was totally restructured, and quality transformed.
