2022 Vieux Chateau Mazerat

A wine that has moved from a second wine to more of a standalone wine based largely on Merlot, the 2022 Mazerat is 90% Merlot and 10% Franc that's mostly from two vineyards, one around the new château next to Angelus called Verdiannes and the other Languitey, which is where the La Dome cuvée largely pulls from. It has a brilliant nose of ripe red plums, black cherries, iron, darker chocolate, and spicy nuances all give way to a rich, concentrated, full-bodied 2022 that has remarkable tannins and a great finish. It's a big, ripe, sexy Saint-Emilion offering balance, purity, and ample finesse. Give bottles 4-5 years and enjoy over the following two decades or so.

Cumin, incense, sandalwood, black cherry, dried roses, cocoa bean, espresso, this is charming and nuanced, slate tannins slow down progression, and it maintains freshness. 30hl/h yield. The fruit from the former Les Carrés bottling also in here, located up on the plateau, harvest September 14 to 28.
