The 2021 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru does not possess much complexity on the nose, with slightly dilute and reduced scents that don't really engage. The palate is slightly bitter on entry, a little oaky at first, though the wood begins to dominate towards the sour lemon and lime cordial finish, rendering it rather generic. A divisive wine that prompted discussion about whether there was some marginal TCA. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2021 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru includes the fruit that normally enters the "Quintessence" this year. The aromatics don't really take off in the glass; they are a little subdued with touches of lanolin infusing the citrus fruit. The palate is better with bitter lemon and orange rind on the entry, quite compact for a Corton-Charlemagne, fresh with a lively and quite peppery finish. Enjoy this over the next 10-12 years.
