Ruby-red. Pure aromas of black cherry, currant, espresso and spicy oak. Rich, fat and ripe but youthfully subdued today. This is dense and concentrated but its rather muscular components have not yet come into harmony. Similarly a bit sullen on the back end, but the tannins are fine. IÂ’d expect this to reward five or six years of additional cellaring.

Cask sample. Exceptionally deep crimson. Light nose. Lots of acidity. Lacks fruit definition. (JR)

Bright medium ruby. Enticing aromas of blueberry pie, blackberry, bitter cherry, bitter chocolate and flowers. Offers an impressive mouthful of dark fruits and chocolate, complicated by a subtle gamey nuance. Bracing but harmonious acids serve to intensify this wine's superb fruit. The richest of these 2001s by far. Finishes with broad, fine tannins and impressive chocolatey persistence.
