The 2018 Volnay Les Angles 1er Cru has a forward bouquet. Touches of dark chocolate infuse the red berry fruit. This is very candied in style and lacks pedigree and mineralité . The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins. Certainly it demonstrates more freshness and tension than the aromatics. Fine grip, slightly chalky towards the finish, moderate persistence with black, tertiary, tobacco-tinged fruit on the close. It just lacks a bit of sustain on the aftertaste. Boillot began his harvest on August 25 with the 2018 Volnay 1er Cru Les Angles, and the wine has turned out beautifully, soaring from the glass with a lovely bouquet of cherries, dark berries, peonies, orange rind and licorice. Medium to full-bodied, it's velvety and succulent, concluding with gentle back-end grip that will round out with additional élevage. In case anyone is wondering, the finished alcohol is 13.1%.
The 2018 Volnay Les Angles 1er Cru was the first parcel picked, on August 25, and the alcohol still comes in at 13.1%. It has a generous bouquet of red cherries, raspberry and pomegranate tinged with rose petals. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins. Quite a weighty and voluminous Volnay, with a touch of white pepper and bay leaf toward the finish. Fine, though I would like a little more tension in the mouth.
