The 2018 Volnay Les Grands Poisots hails from the Volnay lieu-dit adjacent to Pommard's Le Poisot, whence derives Boillot's Pommard Village, yet the two wines are quite different in character. Mingling dark cherries and berries with hints of baking chocolate and loamy soil, this Volany is medium to full-bodied, supple and velvety, with succulent acids and powdery structuring tannins cloaked in a generous core of fruit.

Not that expressive on the nose. I think everything is here but it’s all a bit muddy. A sample problem? And a little bitter on the end. (JR)

The 2018 Volnay Les Grands Poisets was showing a little reduction on the nose, although there appears to be plenty of ripe black cherry and bilberry fruit behind it. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins. A Pommard-like Volnay with a grippy, rather assertive finish that just needs a little more flesh and charm. Not bad, though I prefer the Pommard Village at this prenatal stage.
