The 2020 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru leans more towards tropical fruit on the nose: banana and tinned pineapple. It's seductive if a little more obvious than its peers. It feels a bit blowsy after the superior Domaine de la Vougeraie. The palate is balanced with ripe, honeyed fruit, unctuous in texture, what feels like a late-picked, possibly botrytised Corton-Charlemagne that just lacks a bit of panache and mineralité on the finish. It is one of the earlier-drinking wines from the famous hillside but still enjoyable. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

The 2020 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru has a concentrated and much more flamboyant bouquet compared to the 2021, although I feel that the 2021 has more delineation and mineralité . The palate is medium-bodied with a lovely nutty core of citrus fruit, orange pith and mango towards the weighty finish. There is just a touch of spiciness developing on the aftertaste. This sashays along in style, though against expectations, compared side-by-side, I err towards the splendid 2021.

Cask sample. Medium weight and quite rich. Heavy and fun without being too ripe. Attractive creamy texture. (JR)
