The 2019 Corton Clos du Roi Grand Cru has commendable purity on the nose, with perfumed, floral red fruit and hints of wilted rose petal infusing the redcurrant jam and raspberry aromas. The palate is medium-bodied, fleshy and harmonious, with pliant tannins but too much new oak toward the finish. There is sufficient fruit to soak that up with bottle age, although it just detracts from what is otherwise a promising Corton. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2019 Corton Grand Cru Clos du Roi is one of the high points of the range. Revealing aromas of sweet berry fruit, rose petals, orange rind and spices and framed by a discreet patina of classy new oak, it's medium to full-bodied, concentrated and multidimensional, with a rich and vibrant core of fruit, lively acids and a long, penetrating finish.

The 2019 Corton Clos du Roi Grand Cru has a clean, precise bouquet of red cherry and wild strawberry aromas, nicely focused, with pressed iris petals emerging with time. The palate is very well balanced, the two-thirds whole cluster well integrated, with a persistent and very elegant finish. This is how to make a Clos du Roi.
