The 2019 Corton Clos du Roi Grand Cru is well-defined on the nose, with open-knit brambly red fruit, light earthy scents, briar and a twist of dried orange peel. This opens nicely in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied and supple—fleshy, but with structure behind it. A healthy sprinkling of white pepper toward the finish lingers in the mouth. This will drink well over the next 12 to 15 years. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2019 Corton Clos du Roi has an attractive bouquet of dark berry fruit complemented by iris and peony aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins on the entry, and maybe a little more rustic in style than expected, leading to a muscular finish. Maybe the Les Renards just has a little more grace at this early stage.
