From a difficult vintage, the 2013 Château Pédesclaux is a pretty, elegant, silky wine that has plenty to love. Blackberries, leafy herbs, graphite, and underbrush notes all emerge from this well-made, balanced, medium-bodied effort to drink over the coming 5-7 years.

The 2013 Pedesclaux has respectable fruit on the nose in context of the vintage: mulberry and bilberry, perhaps a little smudged after the 2012, but decent intensity. The palate has an easy-drinking swagger, the acidity nicely pitched against the blackberry and cedar notes, linear and foursquare towards the finish but with fine length. This is a good effort in such a tricky vintage. Tasted March 2016.

Very deep, dramatic purple. Lots of floral, violet scent. Black cherry fruit, fine but prominent tannins. Smooth and sumptuous – but short too. (RH)
