Drink 0-0, Neal Martin, Sep 2024

The 2020 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru is slightly muddled on the nose, which oppresses the somewhat overripe fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with rounded black cherries and raspberry. Having enjoyed this out-of-barrel, I must confess that this bottle left me scratching my head, whereas others in the group clearly appreciated it more. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2020 Vosne-Romanée Aux Brûlées 1er Cru is blended with 70% whole bunch and matured in two-thirds new oak. Again, the stems here are neatly enmeshed, allspice and black pepper, leaning slight more towards black fruit than red. The palate is medium-bodied with quite firm tannins on the entry, loosening a little midway, quite "cool" and spicy towards the finish. Classy.
