The 1987 Saffredi is now past peak. I tasted two bottles, one of which was in slightly better shape, but not enough to make a material difference.

Tuscany. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. 1987 was a year of prevalently regular climate: temperatures were within the norm with some spring-time showers. The summer, on the other hand, was hot and dry. The harvest was carried out in the first week of October. 4,000 bottles produced. Dark ruby with a well-shaded rim. Fully mature nose and rather rustic, dry tannins on the finish. Pleasant and well balanced enough but over its first bloom of youth. Of sentimental interest (not least to me – I bought a case soon after this wine's release) but the acidity is in the ascendant.
