Tasted blind at Farr Vintners' blind horizontal tasting, the 2006 Château Certan-Marzelle has a slightly loose-knit bouquet with savoury red berry fruit, black tea, black pepper and cedar. The palate is medium-bodied with fine and quite supple tannin, fresh in the mouth and composed, though it needs more complexity to come through on the finish. Tasted April 2016.

Tasted blind. Lightish and shaded. Unusually evolved and nuanced. Rather old-fashioned – even slightly rustic. Dry finish. Not the fleshiest, nor the most ambitious. (JR)
From the Jean-Pierre Moueix stable. Ripe, almost feral on the nose. Well balanced, lively, quite racy. Not especially dense and slightly stodgy. I’d like a little more lift and aroma. (JR)
Red-ruby. Liqueur-like aromas of kirsch and mint. Fat, plump and sweet, but with firm minerality contributing energy to the lush black cherry and licorice flavors. This has charm for the vintage, and finishes ripe and gentle. Seems fuller than the 2004.
