Score 90/100 · Drink 2013-2020, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Oct 2012

Alessandria's 2008 Barolo is a serious wine. Firm tannins provide the backbone for an expressive core of dark fruit in this highly expressive and polished entry-level offering from Alessandria. The balance of fruit, acidity and structure is superb. Hints of licorice, smoke, incense and cloves meld into the generous, creamy finish. I love the intensity here.

This is yet another solid set of wines from Fratelli Alessandria. Fine Barolo is never inexpensive, but these wines all deliver superb quality for the money. The single-vineyard Baroli are aged in a combination of French oak tonneaux and larger casks, an approach that works beautifully. Importer: Artisan Wine, Norwalk, CT; tel. (203) 866-4552
