Score 89/100 · Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Jan 2016

A big, juicy wine, the 2012 Le Pin Beausoleil offers lovely immediacy and intensity. Super-ripe black cherry, herb and smoke are all pushed forward in an exuberant Merlot-based red that is best enjoyed over the next few years. A healthy dollop of 20% Cabernet Franc rounds out the blend in this delicious Bordeaux Supérieur. Julien Lavenu is the consulting winemaker.

Le Pin Beausoleil is consistently one of the best of the Bordeaux Superieur wines and overperforms in almost every vintage I’ve had it. The 2012 is a pretty big, rich, fleshy wine that comes across more like a Pomerol than one would expect. Big and fleshy, its ripe black cherry and blackcurrant fruit is followed by a heady wine with excellent purity, depth and richness. It is not terribly complex, but it is very satisfying and hedonistic. Drink it over the next 4-5 years. A sleeper of the vintage.
