Score 88-90/100 · Drink 2020-2026, Neal Martin, Jan 2019

The 2017 Volnay Village comes from a single parcel (Clos de la Rougeotte) close to the winery. It offers straightforward dark cherry and bergamot scents on the nose. The 20% new oak is nicely integrated. The palate is fresh on the entry with fine tannin, touches of blood orange and citrus fruit filtering through the tart red cherries and strawberry, with a lively finish. Thoroughly enjoyable, but one for drinking young.

The 2017 Volnay Village displays notes of spicy wild berries, licorice and sweet soil. On the palate, it's medium-bodied, satiny and succulent, with melting tannins and a gourmand attack that segues into a more precise, mineral mid-palate and finish.
