The 2014 Lamothe-Bergeron is much more powerful from bottle than it was from barrel. Smoke, game, tobacco and savory herbs all open up. Deep, dense and also a touch rustic, the 2014 should drink nicely over the next 5-7 years, give or take, once it sheds a bit more tannin.

The 2014 Château Lamothe-Bergeron has a very earthy, undergrowth-scented bouquet that is quite Graves-like in style. I would have liked a little more vivacity and brightness here. The palate is much better with crisp tannin, fresh blackberry, cedar and tobacco notes with fine structure on the finish. I suspect that the aromatics will sort themselves out with a couple of years in bottle. Well-made, but needs time. Tasted September 2016.

60% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon. 12-14 months in barrel (30% new). Savoury quality to the black fruit here. Chewy texture, lively fruit, balanced by freshness. Not terribly long but everything in place and juicy on the finish. (JH)

A gracious, mid-weight wine, the The 2014 Lamothe-Bergeron offers good potential, but today the oak is overpowering, which keeps the flavors and textures from being fully expressive.
