Much better is the 2007 Allende Tinto, which was made from 100% Tempranillo and was bottled unfiltered after spending 14 months in new French oak. It exhibits lots of berry fruit, cedar wood and unsmoked high quality cigar tobacco, medium body, a beautiful texture, and a pure, impressive style with the wood pushed well to the background. Drink it over the next 4-5 years. Importer: Value Wines from Fine Estates from Spain, Dedham, MA, tel. (781) 461-5767; Fax (781) 461-2570; www.jorgeordonez.com

(100% tempranillo; 70% French and 30% American oak) Opaque ruby. A complex bouquet of dark berries, cherry cola and spicecake, with subtle minerality. Juicy, palate-staining blackberry and bitter cherry flavors blend density and energy, with very good mineral spine. Fresh and focused on the finish, which repeats the spicy notes.

Barrel fermented and aged in new French oak. Mid and dense dark lemon. Creamy. Very subtle and tangy and lively. There is definitely intensity and smoothness. Just a bit riper than previous vintages. Sweet. Very good but less lively than previous vintages – like the Louro. (JR)
