The classic 2021 Châteauneuf Du Pape is also terrific and well worth seeking out. Blackberries, hints of currants, peppery herbs, licorice, and crushed stone all define the bouquet, and it's medium to full-bodied, with good mid-palate depth, some firmer tannins, and a great finish. There's good depth of fruit here as well as concentration, and it should round into form with just short-term cellaring.

45% Grenache Blanc, 37% Roussanne, 18% Bourboulenc. Matured in old barriques (70%) and stainless-steel tanks (30%) for seven months. Tasted blind. Attractive fresh figs, wet hay and lime. Quite rich in texture and with a creamy feel to the mid palate. Nice rich style but still has plenty of acidity to refresh and invigorate. (AC)

The highly enjoyable 2021 Châteauneuf-du-Pape has a slight edge over the 2020 I tasted last year. A blend of 65% Grenache and 35% Syrah, swirling the glass unlocks strawberry compote, spice box, licorice and a spoon of black olive tapenade. Medium- to full-bodied and harmonious, the 2021 is built around ripe tannins and concludes with a juicy finish.
