The 2018 Beaune Grèves 1er Cru offers raspberry, white tipped strawberry and subtle sous-bois scents on the well-defined nose. The palate is delineated with lithe tannins, cohesive and poised. The oak is much better integrated than many of its peers with a silky smooth finish that delivers substance and satisfying freshness. Classy winemaking here, this comes recommended. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting.

Cask sample. Attractively perfumed, mid crimson, and a little inky on the end. Needs to breathe a bit and open out. Light mineral chew on the end. Just a little more juicy fruit in the middle wouldn’t go amiss. (JR)

The 2018 Beaune Grèves 1er Cru, from the domaine’s 0.5 hectares in the center of the vineyard, has a perfumed, floral, orange pith and red cherry bouquet. It feels light and airy. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins. There is a fine bead of acidity here and a slightly lactic, dark chocolate-tinged finish of moderate length. Fine.
