The 2020 Puligny-Montrachet Champ Gain 1er Cru has a very tight and mineral-driven, petrichor-tinged bouquet that demanded time to really open. The palate is well balanced with fine definition, still some oak to be subsumed here, quite zest towards the finish. Fine, but maybe just short of an ounce of mineralité on the finish.

Located at the St-Aubin end of the vineyard. Glowing lemon and lime in colour, there is more weight and more tension than the village Puligny, but I don’t find it a lot more interesting. Ripe grapefruit and lemon notes, middleweight. Tasted: November 2021
