Slight nuttiness, restrained lemon fruit. Seems rather muzzled – not showing its teeth. For these sorts of prices, I would prefer a bit more exhibitionism in my Meursault. (RH)

The 2019 Meursault Les Grands Charrons, also taken from tank, has a well-defined bouquet of citrus fruit infused with touches of yellow flower; hints of apricot blossom emerge with time. The palate is well balanced with a brisk, citrus- and lime-tinged entry. Taut at the moment, but there is palpable energy here, and a persistent, ginger-infused finish. Excellent.

Cask sample. Slightly reductive (smoky). Underneath that, a touch of clementine – classic Meursault. Rich, smooth, full in the mouth and still super-fresh. Intense, embryonic and promising. (JH)
