The 2019 Sancerre Clos de Beaujeu was slightly corked and a second bottle was not provided. Underneath, there was a round, mellow expression, in contrast to the steep slope from which it hails. It's all very satisfying and savory with its full body and veil of powdery phenolics coating the mouth like a blanket of snow, followed up with gentle acidity. Having matured on lees in older oak barrels, it's all roundness and texture with rich apple fruit, spices and a hint of pastry. Slightly languid on the finish.

The unfiltered 2019 Sancerre Clos de Beaujeu comes from vines averaging 45 years of age in a southeast-facing vineyard on loamy Kimmeridgian chalk and opens with an herbal and brightly fruity bouquet. On the palate, this is a clear, fresh, round, fruity and structured Sancerre with bright fruit, some hazelnut nuances and long grip and salinity. Entirely vinified in used barriques for 12 months. Tasted in February 2021.
